Warm Weather Wishes

A's Style Roll Call

Teach                                  Pray                                  Love

Hi All! Sorry for the delay this week. It’s completely my fault; I’ve been a little under the weather. However, we’re back! I don’t know about you, but this weather has been wonderful, which sounds crazy because our highest temperature has been like 45, but I’ll take what I can get! Anyways, here’s this week’s outfit picks.

Teach: My grandma actually gave me this outfit. The skirt was a little big, but lucky for me, my neighbor is a seamstress and was able to take it in. All three pieces: skirt, top, and sweater are from JCPenney. I enjoyed wearing this out because of all the color!

Pray: For this week I was going for something comfortable, so I paired a teal, large turtle neck sweater from TJ Maxx with a dark gray skirt, also from TJ Maxx. The boots are from Madden, and I’ve worn them with previous outfits.

Love: Again, this “warm” weather makes me so ready for summer, so I paired a black skinny pant from JC Penney with a light orange top (sleeveless, obviously) also from Penney’s.  I did wear it with a black sweater, which I removed once I got to my party.

Anyways, thanks for waiting on us! Hope you’re all getting prepared for another cold weather front! I know I’m definitely not!

M's Style Roll Call

It's safe to say that I have a substantial scarf collection...in fact they were weighing down the rack on the back of my door so I just had to change how I organized them.  Scarves can really bring an outfit together, like the three in this week's picks.

Teach:  This outfit may become a new go-to....it's comfortable, and warm!  Banana Republic Skirt and Sweater with an Old Navy scarf.  Brown fleece-lined leggings made this outfit warm, and the brown boots have a small heel but are comfty.

Pray:  These are true "jeggings." It's hard to tell, but they are a stretchy blue denim with two back pockets.  They scared me at first and I was hesitant to buy them (at that time I was still not sure I was approving of the legging trend, let alone willing to join it), but with the right outfit they do work well.  Long sleeve MaxStudio striped shirt and MaxStudio sweater paired with Seven7 Jeans scarf.

Love:  This scarf has little giraffes on it and makes me happy!  Paired with a brown BCBG sweater, old navy chambray button down, and black leggings.

The key to a good scarf collection is to have one with a touch of each color in it...at this point I think I'm covered!

Boots & Pumps

A's Style Roll Call

Teach                                  Pray                                 Love

After looking at the past two posts, I realized that I had NO color whatsoever in my outfits, so I decided to mix it up this week and go with not only color, but also stripes. Some would argue that strips (specifically horizontal) are a “No-Go” because “They’re not flattering,” but it’s not necessarily about the stripe. In fact, stripes can be quite slimming depending on the shape. Shape trumps stripe. Remember that.

Teach: If you can’t tell by now, I love to wear a skirt and belt. I think it’s easy and comfortable, which are two of my favorite things. The shirt and shoes are from Kohls while the skirt is from JC Penney. I like to pair color on the bottom with a pattern on the top. By the way: that color blue is my favorite right now!

Pray: This is an outfit that you could also wear to work. When I first got these pants (from JC Penny), I was terrified to wear them because they’re BRIGHT red. However, after a couple of times, I’ve come to really like them. I paired them with a cardigan from Old Navy and a sheer white shirt from Penney’s. Just as a side note: I’ve also worn the red pants with the shirt in frame one from my work outfit. Love when you can mix-and-match outfits.

Love: This was my “Movie Date with Sister” outfit. It’s a plaid red flannel under a v-neck sweater from Old Navy. The jeans are a dark skinny from TJ Maxx, paired with a pair of flat, brown boots from Macy’s (Rampage). It was the perfect outfit to watch Zach Effron in That Awkward Moment.

As many pairs of boots as I have, this week I found myself repeatedly reaching for these camel color boots.  Maybe because they were at the front of the closet, and I was too lazy to grab another pair.  But I think the color of them was just working well with the outfits for this week.

"Teach" Outfit:  The inspiration for this outfit was actually the black and white polka dot tights (Kate Spade), which are kind of hard to see, but they added a little excitement to the camel/black color scheme.  The black skirt is from Banana, and the sweater is Tweed from TJMaxx last season.

"Pray" Outfit:  Comfortable leggings from Loft make this outfit an easy weekend go-to.  Gray Dex brand sweater was a gift (thanks to Colleen!) and I really like the length.  The bronzed gold detail makes it work with the boots.  White t-shirt from the Gap.

"Love" Outfit:  Another pair of black leggings but these are a bit more dressy because they have some stitching going down the side (Michael Kors).  I searched high and low for a chambray shirt, and ended up with this favorite from Old Navy.  Guaranteed to see the denim shirt in a future post.

Until next week!

Sweater Weather

Sweater Weather: Comfort and Color

Teach                                Pray                                 Love
With all the ice and snow that we’ve been experiencing, I was not braving it in heels this week! Although I’m still lacking color, I like to choose pieces that I can dress up or down, depending on where I’m going, so this weeks outfits, you’ll probably see pieces popping up again in the future, and you’ll notice that they’re from affordable clothing stores.

"Teach" Outfit: I decided to go with those black fleece tights (again) because they’re super comfy and warm! It’s kind of hard to see from the distance, but the skirt (JC Penny) has both black and brown in it, which makes it easy to pair with a number of pieces or colors from my closet. I decided to go for a black three-quarters sleeve top from Old Navy because it had sequence around the neck, and I mean, who doesn’t like to sparkle?

"Pray" Outfit: A few years ago, you wouldn’t have caught me dead in skinny jeans, however, after some encouragement from my co-blogger, I bought my first pair, and now, I’m absolutely addicted! These black skinny jeans are from Old Navy. What I like about their jeans is that you can buy them in different cuts to suit your body shape. The shirt, also from Old Navy, is just a sheer white top paired with a white tank under it.

"Love" Outfit: This was my Tuesday night dinner outfit with a friend. I love layered shirts, so I took a plain, white sweater and paired it with a denim shirt (both from Old Navy) and wore it with a pair of dark, denim skinny jeans from TJ Maxx and Madden Booties. It was comfortable and warm, and those are two priorities in my book.

If the slogan for a mullet is "business in the front, party in the back," is the wardrobe equivalent "color on the bottom, neutral on top"?!  I continue the trend of wearing a pop of color in each outfit (maybe to brighten up these chilly winter days!), but that doesn't leave me with much option on the top.  Bright colors need to be balanced with a neutral.

"Teach" outfit:  The turquoise skirt from Banana Republic is one of my go-to's during warmer months, but I decided to try to winterize it by wearing fleece lined tights.  The black and white print top is sheer from LC Lauren Conrad (Kohl's), so I needed something over it.  The blazer finishes the look to make it more professional, and is an old one I have from Express (shoulder pads aren't my favorite, but I deal).

"Pray" outfit:   I could substitute any pair of skinny jeans to work with this black sweater (Express) and black/white gingham button down (Levi's).  The mustard pants are another pair of colored bottoms I picked up at Target last season (Merona brand).

"Love" outfit:  I bought these Seven7 pants to wear over the holidays, but with the top and necklace they made for a good date night selection.  The MaxStudio jacket is a recent addition and new fave, so I'm sure it will make an appearance again soon!

Whether you have a date for Valentine’s Day or not, treat yourself to a special day filled with a cute outfit, delicious dessert, and something special. After all, happiness is found in the littlest of things.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

xoxo,

Winter Blues

Winter Blues (or Browns?  Or Greens?)

Teach                                 Pray                                    Love

First, I should start by saying that I love the thought of winter: a bundled up, hot chocolate sipping, fluffy snow filled season, but my rude awakening of below freezing weather, icy walkways, and gaining the winter weight faithfully kicks in January 1st. Anyways, all three of my outfits are warm, comfy, and centered around the slimming, classy, and chic color: black.

Teach Outfit: For winter months, you can't go wrong by pairing a black skirt with a top of your choice. When I'm struggling for outfits, it's definitely my go to. You can also add a belt or accessorize with a piece of colorful jewelry. I went with a green top and gold accessories.

Pray Outfit: Definitely Pinterest inspired! I used to be anti-black/brown combo, but saw it and loved it! Not to mention, it was super comfortable and warm with the fleece lined tights and boots. The dress and sweater are from JC Penney  (MNG Brand) and the belt is from Kohls.

Love Outfit: Simple and comfortable, I love this dress that I bought from JC Penney (MNG Brand)! Sometimes, I wear it plain, pair it with a belt, or throw a black/gray blazer over it! Pieces like this are essential for your closet because it gives you the option to dress it up or down or wear them multiple times in multiple ways.

It's cold and dreary in the middle of winter, but that doesn't mean your outfits have to be!  Color is in all of my fave looks, including the three from this week.  Whether I'm heading to work, to church, or out to dinner - I always have at least one bold color piece!

The "teach" outfit is mostly Banana Republic Factory Store - but the navy fleece lined tights are a recent TJ Maxx find.  If you don't have a pair yet I'd highly recommend!  You can wear skirts in the winter and stay warm.
infinity scarf

The "pray" outfit is a pair of my go-to skinny jeans (Merona brand from Target), black and white gingham Levis shirt, and Polo sweater.  I usually wear these over the summer, but with the boots and sweater it was easily converted it into a winter look.  The pink color just happens to perfectly match the polo logo on the sweater!

The "love" outfit is a pair of Old Navy skinny jeans, with an Old Navy top, and David & Young (Groupon) infinity scarf.  It was hard to see the scarf in that pic so I took a close up.   Lots of color happening there, so the rest of the outfit was neutral!

Not sure what next week's line-up will look like, but definitely encourage you to leave comments, thoughts, and/or feedback!

Until Next Week,

A & M
